The community the_recession is looking for Live Journal members around the world to participate in a very brief poll checking off the economic conditions in your area. By the end of the poll (open to members and non-members, alike) we hope to have a better idea of what the global economic situation looks like right now. If you would be so kind as to help please go here to find your country, territory, colony, or state.

Thank you! :)

I'm a 25-year-old Language Arts teacher from the states. I've been to Argentina a few times and have fallen in love with the country. If anyone from Argentina is visiting the states around the Michigan area they are free to stay with me. I have an extra room and can provide help with traveling and food.  I'd love the opportunity to be able to practice my Spanish and make new friends.

My e-mail is angel_tears_from_above421@yahoo.com and I have yahoo messenger under that name.

Hope to hear from someone!

This may be a long shot.

My brother and I went to Buenos Aires for a month this summer. He saw some guy wear a shirt on some show there, something like Jackass but an Argentinian mix to it. The shirt was from Universidad de Palermo, and we spent a lot of the summer looking to see if we could find one.

I was hoping to get it for him for Christmas. Does anybody know where I can find it???

Weekend in Buenos Aires
My brother Joel and I just won a weekend in Buenos Aires-- THIS weekend. I leave tonight.

I just found out, so I had almost no time to prepare. I'd love to hear suggestions about favorite, unique restaurants and nightlife, maybe things the guidebooks don't usually mention.

And if you stop by, maybe we'll meet you.

Hi all. My name is Alex. Me and 5 other friends are going to BA July 11th-25th.

Any good events going on? We all like rock/indie music. We plan on going to see Victoria Mil on July 15th.

Does anybody know any other good shows happening those 2 weeks? We are staying in Palermo

I will write in English because my Spanish is quite atrocious! :P

I will be heading to Buenos Aires in a couple weeks for about 8-10 weeks to do a Spanish course, but would like to volunteer while I'm down there as well.

Can anyone recommend anywhere I would be able to do... anything?  Work with children, campaigning something, work with people... I guess most importantly be able to SPEAK as much as I can (in Spanish, of course)!

Any ideas are greatly appreciated, since I haven't the faintest idea of where to look!

I'm looking for a studio apartment in Buenos Aires, preferably the San Telmo area, from late February to June, but if it MUST be a 6 month deal I can do that if the rent is low enough. I would also consider rooming with other young people (20s). How do I go about finding an apartment without getting ripped off? I speak a little Spanish, but I'm still a beginner. I've looked at craigslist, but the places seem really overpriced (500 to 700 USD for a STUDIO?), and the online classified for the local newspapers are the same. Does anyone have suggestions? Can any locals tell me about how much in pesos or USDs I should expect to pay for a furnished (not luxurious...just necessities) studio that isn't falling apart and is in a safe location- the price locals would be expected to pay? Also, does anyone know of any strategies for seeking out other students in the city who might be looking for roommates? Other ideas for low-cost housing? I can't spend more than 300-350 USD a month, and that is at the very highest.
Thanks for any advice you might have.
